Lakers Drop Nuggets, 111-107

Iverson's 51 points Not Enough to Overcome Kobe-led Lakers at Home

Allen Iverson's stellar three quarters of play was not enough to overcome a team-wide fourth quarter slump, as the Nuggets were dropped by the visiting LA Lakers, 111-107. The Nuggets were unable to stop Kobe Bryant, who led his team throughout, and went on to dominate the fourth quarter. The Nuggets were led by a red hot Allen Iverson who scored a league best 49 points in just three quarters of play. Iverson was unable to get off many shots in the final chapter, scoring just two points in the fourth. Asked if fatigue was a factor in his fourth quarter fallout, Iverson responded after the game that he was given the chance to get a blow at the end of the third quarter. He declined his coaches offer, playing all 48 minuets of the contest. Iverson went on to say, "I hear a lot about being an old man, but I felt good, I can play basketball for 48 minuets. Outside of Iverson's immense effort, the Nuggets didn't get much else from his supporting cast. Carmelo chipped in 26 points, but missed shots on key possessions at the tail end of the game. The only other Nugget to reach double figures was Eduardo Najera, who had 10 points on the night. Marcus Camby led the way on the rebounding front with 20 total boards but he was held scoreless in his worst offensive game of the season. Overall, there was a strong lack of balance that prevented the Nuggets from beating a beatable opponent. The Lakers played the previous night, but seemed unaffected by the quick turnaround. The Nuggets will try to emulate that, as they will play tomorrow night in Dallas against the Mavericks. The loss drops the Nuggets to 11-8 on the season.
